Keys and Building Access
Access to all laboratories as well as to most buildings after-hours is restricted to authorized people only. Some areas are keyed, and some will use Unicard tap-access for entry.
To Request Access:
Fill in the Key Form, including all rooms you will need access to. Typical requests might include:
- Your research lab(s)
- The building your lab is in
- Student Office Area
- Common areas (e.g. photocopier room)
Fill out the Room number (or “building access”) you are requesting on the form, as well as the key number if known. Your supervisor should sign off on the form to indicate their approval of the keys requested. Send the form to email@example.com to be fulfilled.
For areas with Unicard access, you must be sure to include your UCID# on the form. If you don’t have your Unicard yet, see the Unicard site to get one. There is a $50 refundable deposit on all keys issued by the Department.
While the Department Office is closed:
The Department Office is temporarily closed while the work from home request from the University is in effect. During this time:
- Key distribution is being done “contactless”. After receiving your request, it will be processed and the keys left in a designated location for pickup. You may need someone from your lab to accompany you, as you will need key access to get to your keys. This can take up to one week as our admin staff are only on campus at designated times.
- The $50 deposit will be collected once the office is open again for in-person meetings. (Cash or cheque accepted.)
For people returning their keys, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange for a similar contactless drop-off and make plans for returning your deposit.
