Students should complete the certificate in 8 months (2 semesters).

A certificate in Software Security can work within the Canada-Alberta Job Grant model if the employer and employee meet the criteria as set out in the Canada-Alberta Job Grant Applicant Guide.

Students are able to enroll as either "part-time" or "full-time". This will affect the amount they are assessed for General Fees, as well as the services offered (e.g. part-time students are not eligible for health, dental or a UPASS (used for Calgary Transit). It may also relevant regarding student loans, as a student's status as part- or full-time can impact their eligibility. 


In addition to Faculty of Graduate Studies requirements for Admission, successful applicants will meet the following requirements:

Undergraduate preparation:

A four-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized institution. In addition, candidates must have an undergraduate course in each of the following computer science areas:

  • Computer programming with understanding of execution environments (e.g., CPSC 233 or equivalent)
  • Algorithms and data structures (e.g., CPSC 331  or equivalent)
  • Either Operating systems (e.g., CPSC 457 or equivalent); or Computer networks (e.g., CPSC 441 or equivalent)

Unofficial transcripts (those uploaded or supplied by the student) can be used to evaluate an admission application to speed up the admission process. You can upload your unofficial transcripts in your Student Centre, which is accessible with your Student ID. Admission would then be offered contingent on the receipt of your transcripts by a certain date.

Official transcripts are those received by the University of Calgary directly from the issuing institution.

Official transcripts are to be sent in a sealed envelope or directly emailed to the program by the issuing institution. Request your transcripts to be sent to:

When transcripts are emailed, the transcript retrieval instructions should be emailed directly to the program administrator ( by the institution or their third party contractor, with the transcript to be downloaded from a secure site by the Information Security program using a unique link/password (not sent as an attachment).

No, we are able to retrieve internal transcripts, and do not require them to be sent to the program.

We do not accept transcripts through WES or any other third party service.
