Volunteer for Ask Me and give new students a warm welcome to UCalgary

Whether it's answering questions, giving directions, or simple reassurance, your support makes a lasting difference for new students

Starting university can feel overwhelming, but a welcoming face can make all the difference. That’s where the Ask Me program comes in.

Each September, faculty, staff and student volunteers proudly wear bright red “Ask Me” buttons, making them easy to spot for new students navigating campus. From finding classrooms to connecting with academic services, volunteers provide answers, guidance and reassurance.

All members of the UCalgary community have the chance to make a student's first month special and welcoming. By volunteering, you’ll help ease the transition for thousands of new students, ensuring they feel supported from their first day.

How you can get involved

Sign up as a First-Week Greeter: Do you have free time between Sept. 2-4? Greeters are stationed at critical campus areas to provide in-the-moment help during the busiest days of the academic year.

Be an Ask Me volunteer: All you have to do is wear an Ask Me button or put up an Ask Me poster so students know where they can go for help throughout September. By making yourself easy to spot, students can come to you for directions, services and campus life questions. Request Ask Me pins or posters »

Ask Me is an important part of UCalgary’s Orientation programming (Aug. 28–29, 2025), which welcomes new students to campus each fall. Orientation helps students connect with peers, learn about resources, and feel part of a supportive campus community from day one.
