LinkedIn Learning available to all UCalgary postdocs, faculty and staff
The University of Calgary is giving employees more opportunities to grow with the reintroduction of LinkedIn Learning.
The platform provides on-demand courses covering business, technical and creative skills, as well as certification programs. It is designed to offer flexible, accessible learning that complements existing professional-development programs at the university.
“Investing in our people is central to Ahead of Tomorrow,” says Jacqueline Lacasse, LLB'05, general counsel and vice-president (people and culture), referring to UCalgary's 2023-30 Strategic Plan.
“Professional development can take many forms and is about more than building skills. It supports confidence, adaptability and innovation across campus.
"By providing tools and resources, we encourage our people to grow in ways that suit their roles and career goals.”
Formal professional-development programs and courses, including ULearn, the Academic Leadership Academy, and tuition-supported academic and continuing education programs, offer structured learning.
LinkedIn Learning adds another layer, offering thousands of expert-led courses that employees can access anytime to complement those formal and informal development pathways.
“Leaders are key to fostering a learning culture,” says Steve McCardy, associate vice-president (people and culture).
“Encouraging teams to dedicate time for learning, supporting growth in daily work and sharing knowledge strengthens both individual skills and the university’s overall workplace.
"These efforts create an environment where learning is part of everyday work and growth is supported across all roles.”
By combining on-the-job learning, peer support, mentorship, formal programs and LinkedIn Learning, UCalgary ensures professional development is available to all employees at every stage of their career.
