Professor and alumnus featured in special issue of Banking and Finance Law Review
Professor Ryan Clements co-authored the "Introduction to the Fourth Annual Special Issue on Fintech" with Virginia Torrie and Aurelio Gurrea-Martínez. The issues covers some of the new challenges in fintech, including the exponential growth of blockchain-based finance, the adoption of new approaches and regulations to deal with open banking, the collapse of crypto exchanges, and the need to promote a more sustainable financial system.
Duncan Pardoe's article, "The Merits of Token Capital Raises," was the winner of the journal's Law Student FinTech Writing Program. Duncan argues that crypto assets - namely tokens - can deliver regulatory arbitrage benefits in Canada, and can create value by reducing agency costs, enhancing internal risk and liquidity management practices, and provide investors with a new array of customized investment products, while keeping an eye on potential systemic risks.
