We offer a diploma with four unique specializations in Data Science and Analytics to prepare you for a job in a variety of emerging fields.

Diploma Specializations

Business Analytics

Offered by the Haskayne School of Business, this specialization will provide you with the skills needed to support data-driven business decision-making. Students will collect and interpret big data through analysis to evaluate, predict and prescribe decisions in numerous business areas.

Offered by the Faculty of Science, this specialization will help you gain skills for the new digital economy. You will learn how to apply the analytical tools to work in professional fields such as data analysis and cleaning, machine learning and information visualization.

Offered by the Cumming School of Medicine, this specialization will provide you with the skills  to help advance precision medicine and public health. You will learn to apply analytic techniques including machine learning, natural language processing and data visualization in the world of medicine.

Offered by the Faculty of Science, this specialization will give you the skills to flourish in a data-driven global economy. You will learn to apply these concepts and tools in the financial and energy industries to effectively plan future trading and transactions and manage their associated risk.

NOTE:  Once you have initiated your application, be sure to choose "Data Science and Analytics- Diploma" from the list of programs offered.

To be considered for admission to the certificate and diploma programs in data science and analytics, you must meet the requirements outlined in the academic calendar.

In case of discrepancies between this page and the Academic Calendar, the Academic Calendar shall prevail. The minimum requirements are the same for all three credentials in the Data Science and Analytics graduate program, as such we recommend that students apply to the highest credential they are interested in.

The curriculum depends on the diploma program. In the Fall Term (from September until December), all students from the certificate and diploma programs will start together with four courses in the fundamentals of data science and analytics (DATA 601, 602, 603 and 604).   Starting in January, students proceed to the diploma phase with domain-specific courses for each specialization. An overview is provided below:

Eight months for new full-time students starting with the certificate program, or four months for full-time students laddering from the certificate program. Maximum completion time of three years for part-time students.
