Our Mission
Mind & Matter is more than a seminar—it’s a space for curiosity, connection, and community. The series aims to:
- Explore hot topics in physics and philosophy in a way that’s open to all backgrounds.
- Break down silos by highlighting how the two disciplines enrich one another.
- Foster community between departments, faculty, and students through shared learning and discussion

Why Physics and Philosophy?
From ancient Greece to the Renaissance to today, physics, philosophy, and mathematics have been deeply intertwined. Thinkers like Archimedes, Hypatia, Omar Khayyam, Émilie du Châtelet, and Simone de Beauvoir combined logic, experimentation, and reflection to push knowledge forward.
Physics without philosophy risks losing its curiosity; philosophy without logic risks losing its grounding. Mind & Matter celebrates this tradition—bringing together two disciplines to inspire fresh thinking in a modern context.
