Girls Excel in Math (GEM) Summer Camp 2025

The Girls Excel in Math Summer Camp is back for 2025! This free, three-day camp invites girls currently in Grades 6–9 to dive into exciting, hands-on math experiences that go beyond the classroom.

Location: University of Calgary
Dates: Tuesday, July 8 – Thursday, July 10, 2025
Time: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM daily

What to Expect

This in-person camp is designed to encourage girls to pursue their passion for mathematics and make connections with peers who share similar interests. Throughout the week, students will engage in mathematical sessions that explore topics such as the connections between music and math, coding theory, fair division, voting theory, and the mathematical constant π.

Each day features a mix of:

• Large mathematical sessions in lecture halls
• Small group activities in classroom settings
• Engaging math challenges led by inspiring mentors

Please note:

• Lunch is not provided—students should bring their own each day
• Transportation to and from campus is the responsibility of each family

How to Register

Spots are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is a two-step process:

Step 1: Register through Active Living

Complete the registration form.
Note: If you’re new to Active Living, you’ll need to create an account first.

After registering, you’ll receive a confirmation email from active@ucalgary.ca with the subject line: “Active Living Math Camp - 2025 Girls Excel in Math Summer Camp Information.”

Step 2: Sign the Photo Release Form

• Log in to your Active Living account: Login here
• Click your name (top right), then select Waivers and Forms
• Scroll to the Photo Release form and complete it

If your account is new, the system may display a verification error. Please log in again the next day to complete this step.

Once both steps are complete, your registration is confirmed. You’ll receive a follow-up email from Lauren DeDieu within two weeks. If you don’t see it, please check your spam folder. Still nothing? Email Lauren at lauren.dedieu@ucalgary.ca.

Voluntary Donation

This camp is free to attend. If you're able, we welcome a voluntary donation of $40 to help cover the cost of materials, t-shirts, and facility use.
