Schulich students train on latest technologies thanks to Spartan Controls

Providing engineering students with increased access to real-world learning took a step forward this week, thanks to a relationship between the Schulich School of Engineering and Spartan Controls.

A strong supporter of the engineering school, Spartan Controls donated leading-edge technology for a new instrumentation and measurement systems lab at the University of Calgary that will support student success and enhance the student experience.

“Spartan Controls is a long-standing partner of engineering education,” says Bill Rosehart, dean of the Schulich School of Engineering. “We are proud of this relationship and are delighted Spartan Controls expanded its support of our NSERC Chair in Design Engineering and made this gift-in-kind of equipment. We appreciate Spartan Controls’ generosity and continued investment in our students and researchers.”

The instrumentation and measurement systems lab will introduce engineering students to a variety of industrial process measurement, actuation and controls techniques that are used in industrial settings. Students from across engineering disciplines will develop the skills they need to design systems for use in a wide range of industrial applications. The system also offers new opportunities for teaching and research collaborations.

Spartan’s donation includes service and support for the new equipment and training that will keep students, faculty and staff up to date on new technologies and industry trends.

Spartan Controls has been supporting the Schulich School of Engineering for four decades. The partnership evolved over the years and, in 2009, it also made a gift of equipment to an analytical lab in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering.
