Research on Global Challenges UNIV 401.32
Winter 2021
Research Project Streams
The COVID-19 global pandemic has profoundly altered our world – from how we live and work to our understanding of disease transmission. At an astounding pace, with fasttracked and rapidly emerging research, we have already learned so much. What more can we learn? How can we take the lessons learned and the stories we have shared locally, nationally, and globally to serve as tools for the next pandemic we face?
In this research stream, students will work in multidisciplinary and collaborative groups to research questions related to COVID-19. By blending computer science with biology, medicine and the arts, students will use cutting-edge technology, computational modelling, simulation, data visualization, and storytelling to explore answers to: How did the pandemic start? What is the status of the pandemic? What have we learned about public health and human interactions? How can we use computational modelling, machine learning, and storytelling to move forward from here? Are we better prepared for the next pandemic?
Students from all faculties, disciplines, technical skillsets and research experience levels are invited to participate in this research project stream.
