Located in MacEwan Student Centre (MSC 171), the Life Design Hub at the University of Calgary opened to students and the campus community this week.

The Hub provides students a dedicated space to engage in personal and career development work and design their future. Life Design workshops and events will introduce students to creating a life of meaning and approaching life’s challenges like a designer would.

Life Design at UCalgary

Life Design is an approach to building a fulfilling and meaningful life that is based on the principles of design thinking. Design thinking is a process of problem-solving that involves defining a challenge, generating ideas, prototyping, and testing solutions, and implementing the most promising solutions.

Students across Canada who completed the 2020 National Student Engagement Survey (NSSE) indicated a greater desire for career development, community connections and self discovery on campus. Life Design programming will target important themes identified by students including navigating failure, getting unstuck, addressing barriers and building confidence.

Life Design programming at UCalgary is based on the highly successful Designing Your Life course from Stanford University. Programming has been adapted to address unique needs of our student population to help them with personal and professional wayfinding.

Students can attend tailored workshops including: Making Hard Decisions, Navigating your Career Journey, and Creating your Future. Students may also complete the entire Designing Your Life workshop series.

For more information about Life Design programs, please visit the workshop and event web page.
