The Faculty of Science is thrilled to unveil our 2024-2030 Strategic Plan, Get Science Done. Because that’s exactly what we’re here to do – get science done to advance the frontiers of knowledge and serve all Albertans.

This bold new strategy is focused on supporting Alberta’s science talent pipeline and advancing our partnerships with industry and community. At 5:30 p.m. this May 22, join us at the Ampersand (located at 112 4th Avenue SW) for the official launch, including:

  • A keynote speech and an engaging 30-minute panel on how partnerships drive research and innovation
  • Ways to share your input on how UCalgary Science can support Alberta’s industry, economy, and community
  • A showcase of UCalgary Science’s leading-edge research and innovation
  • A first look at plans for the new science building announced in Budget 2024
  • Catered buffet and refreshments

Dean of Science, University of Calgary

Dr. Kristin Baetz is Dean of Science and Professor of Microbiology at the University of Calgary. She previously served as Assistant Dean of Research and Special Projects at the University of Ottawa and Director of the Ottawa Institute of for Systems Biology. A passionate believer that science should enhance and enrich the communities around it, she has led UCalgary Science on a bold trajectory of partnerships with industry, government, and community. In an inspiring 10-minute keynote, Dr. Baetz will share her insights on how science can be a transformative force for good in Alberta, Canada, and beyond.



The Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary is burgeoning as a destination for research talent and action-oriented students. To guide this growth, a strategic plan has been developed with broad and deep involvement of the faculty and community, to realize a shared vision for 2030.
