Haskayne School of Business collaborates with D.O.P and Phil & Sebastian to bring new dining experience to students

The Haskayne School of Business is pleased to announce Mathison Hall is fully open for business with the official grand opening of its Food Services. The new space is operated by food services provider Aramark.

Located on the second level, the new Food Services completely transforms the campus dining experience through the thoughtful integration of local Calgary businesses through meaningful partnerships with award-winning Italian restaurant D.O.P and popular coffee chain Phil & Sebastian, in addition to leveraging the latest technology and business trends to introduce an autonomous store. Haskayne students now have access to fresh made-to-order offerings, convenient grab-and-go options and high-quality coffee and beverages to satisfy their nutritional needs at all times of the day.

“We were very strategic and intentional with the creation of Haskayne’s Food Services. This is much more than just a new food space, but instead reflects the positive impact and exciting synergies that can result from purposeful partnerships with the local business community,” says Catherine Heggerud, associate dean, undergraduate programs, Haskayne School of Business.

“At Haskayne, we pride ourselves on the close connections we have with the Calgary business community, and our working relationships with D.O.P and Phil & Sebastian serve as a prime example of those connections in action. Putting a spotlight on local business community through purposeful partnerships

Organized into three unique dining spaces — The Hot Seat, The Market and The Exchange — each area offers guests distinct dining options and helps fulfil the growing need for affordable, convenient and diverse food offerings, particularly on the east end of campus.

Designed to serve as a third-party restaurant rotation space, The Exchange is proud to welcome one of Canada’s Top 100 Best Restaurants, D.O.P, as its inaugural partner. D.O.P offers students fresh, high-quality pasta and homemade sauces they would find on the restaurant menu at a fraction of the price.

“Choosing to work with the Haskayne School of Business as its inaugural restaurant partner was a natural decision for us as it allows our business the opportunity to tap into a new clientele base and give students the chance to explore our menu at the very beginning stages of their educational journeys,” says Tony Migliarese, owner, D.O.P.

“As a business located in Calgary’s downtown core, it excites us that we’re able to foster connections early on with tomorrow’s business leaders, which will hopefully open the doors to evolve into long-term relationships. We’d love for students to look back and be able to say, ‘I remember my first D.O.P experience back in university.’"

Leveraging the latest technology to match campus dining needs

In addition to the dining spaces, Haskayne is also leveraging the latest technology to introduce a 24/7 autonomous store, Quick Eats. The store will offer sandwiches, wraps, salads, baked goods, coffee and Coca-Cola products for the community to enjoy at any time of day. This AI-powered retail solution integrates technology and automation to provide a streamlined, effortless shopping experience. Using computer vision and sensors, guests enter the store, select their items and are automatically charged the amount for the products they have taken upon exiting the store.

To access this experience, customers are required to download the Hey Chef app from the Apple or Google Play store and create an account. Once the account is created the customer will be prompted to enter in a five-digit access code. The access code DINOS will provide access to the Quick Eats store as well as other locations on campus that offer mobile orders.

Key Food Services spaces and offerings details:

• The Hot Seat

  • Open Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., serving made-to-order hot breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, fries and more.

• The Market

  • Open Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests can experience coffee offerings from popular UCalgary alumni-run business, Phil & Sebastian, as well as other noteworthy options such as fresh smoothies and homemade grab-and-go sandwiches and wraps.

• The Exchange

  • Open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests will get to experience fresh pasta and homemade sauces from D.O.P that truly set the standard for dining excellence — at affordable price points.

• Quick Eats

  • Open 24/7 and operating as an autonomous store, guests will have access to sandwiches, salads, wraps, baked goods, coffee and Coca-Cola products.

With the official grand opening taking place tomorrow (Nov. 8) from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Haskayne encourages the UCalgary community to visit its new dining space and participate in the grand opening festivities which include free coffee and a cookie (while quantities last), a ribbon-cutting ceremony (taking place at 10:15 a.m.), tours of the space (including a walkthrough on how to use the autonomous store), food samplings, and exciting prizes and giveaways for attendees. From Nov. 8 to 10, Quick Eats is also offering a 10 per cent discount on all its products.
