IN MEMORIAM: John Kendall, Faculty of Science
The Faculty of Science is mourning the loss of Dr. John Kendall, PhD, professor emeritus and former head of the department of computer science (1985-1989) and dean (1989-1997). He passed away October 22, 2019 at the age of 82.
In his nearly-30-year career at the university, Dr. Kendall was an innovator, an active community member, and a champion for students. He remained active in the university community after retiring, initiating the John Kendall Doctoral Thesis Award, which is presented to a graduate student in the Faculty of Science who demonstrated excellence in their PhD thesis. This award would be presented to the student at the Faculty of Science Awards of Excellence event each spring, where Dr. Kendall would be on hand to congratulate the winner.
