UCalgary Law wins Canadian round of The Jessup
The University of Calgary team won the Canadian qualifying round of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition this weekend in Ottawa.
The team includes third-year students Daniel Lasko and Spencer Hoffman, second-year students Jon Rocheleau, Andrea Mannell and Stephanie Ridge, and coaches (and alumni) Jeff Major-Hansford and Christine Viney.
After six preliminary rounds, the team was ranked in the top four and advanced to the semi-finals where they mooted against the University of Western Ontario in the Federal Courtroom at the Supreme Court.
In addition to placing first, the team was recognized for having the best overall written memorials in the competition. Daniel Lasko was named third oralist and Stephanie Ridge was named sixth oralist.
The team will be advancing to the international rounds taking place March 27 – April 2, 2016 in Washington D.C. where they will compete against more than 600 law schools from more than 90 countries.
The team would like to thank coaches Christine and Jeff for their dedication and support for the past five months as well as the many members of the Calgary legal community who volunteered as judges during the team's 19 practice rounds.
