Professor receives grant for research on impact assessments

Professor David Wright has received an SSHRC Insight Development Grant for his project "Social Cost of Carbon in Impact Assessment: Exploring Potential Roles and Legal Pathways."

David's research will examine how the social cost of carbon has been used in Canadian decision-making to date, using primary source documents that detail Canada's use of SCC in regulatory decision-making and cost-benefit analysis (typically contained in federal "regulatory impact analysis statements"). He will also analyze key purposes and components of the Canadian Impact Assessment Act that could serve as tenable legal bases for integration of climate change considerations.

Insight Development Grants support research in its initial stages. The grants enable the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas. Funding is provided for short-term research development projects, of up to two years, proposed by individuals or teams.
