The UCalgary Law team won the 2016 Donald G. Bowman National Tax Moot this past weekend.

3L Michael Shahinian summarized the experience:

The University of Calgary tax moot team placed first at the Bowman Tax Moot this past weekend (Feb 26-27) in Toronto.

The team consisted of third year students Colin Bartlett, David Gordon, Jonathan McDonald, Stefan Mirkovic, and Michael Shahinian. Our coaches were Dan Morrison and Andrew Bateman from Felesky Flynn.

The appellant team of Colin Bartlett and Jon McDonald beat the University of Toronto in the finals. Colin had a particularly devastating reply which helped seal the victory.

We were extremely shocked that our respondent team of Stefan Mirkovic and David Gordon did not make the playoff round. As a team, we were all under the impression that they would be going through to the playoffs. Nevertheless, we are happy that it worked out in the end.

The team had an incredible experience and would like to thank the University of Calgary and Felesky Flynn for making the experience possible. We also had a significant amount of help from the Calgary legal community including Felesky Flynn, the Department of Justice, Deloitte, PWC, Norton Rose Fulbright, Osler, Blakes, Bennett Jones, Athenea O'Bryan, and Professor Saul Templeton.
