Join the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Science for a day filled with hands-on activities and live demonstrations right from our researchers’ labs. Whether you’re 2 or 102, there’s a world of science and creativity for you to explore at the Calgary Central Library.
On Saturday, September 21st you will be in awe and wonder at how science makes our world work - with magic of chemistry, the physics of flight and levitation, the wonders of parasites, virtual reality, the power of earthquakes and more!
Our scientists will explain how you can build paper rockets, outrun a dinosaur, and even untangle yourself using math.
Be a scientist for a day and join us for this FREE, all ages event from 9 am – 5 pm.
Special Presentation
So you want to write sci-fi
Time: 10:30am - 12:00pm
Location: The Teen Space
All teens are invited to a 1.5 hr science fiction writing workshop. Get tips on generating ideas, world building, and creating convincing characters from writer and editor, Heather Clitheroe, and space scientist Eric Donovan.

Title: A little taste of quantum mysteries, applications and beyond

Join Parisa Zarkesian, as she explains quantum mechanics, the iconic “Schrödinger’s Cat” thought experiment and spooky action between two far distant particles. She will also discuss new quantum technologies and where they will go into the future. Parisa Zarkeshian, is a PhD candidate in the department of physics and astronomy and Institute for Quantum Science and Technology at the University of Calgary.

Title: Oceans in the Anthropocene: Impacts and Routes to Mitigation

How do human activities and global changes affect our oceans? Jagos Radovic will address that question and talk about research being done at the University of Calgary to better understand the effects of human activities and what innovative solutions are being developed to mitigate their negative impacts. Jagos Radovic, PhD is a research associate in the department of geoscience at the University of Calgary.

Title: Parasites and the Immune System: the Battle Explained

Parasites and the immune system have been at war for millions of years. Come and see Dr. James Wasmuth (team parasite) and Dr. Constance Finney (team immune system) battle it out to convince you which is the most AMAZING! Constance Finney is an assistant professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and James Wasmuth is an associate professor in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, at the University of Calgary. Both are Host-Parasite Interactions Network (HPI) Faculty members.
